Ten Commandments for Listening - 2
- Empathize with the talker
- Put yourself in their place, see their point of view
- Be patient, allow plenty of time
- Don't interrupt, or start for the door
- Hold your temper
- Anger generates the wrong response
- Go easy on criticism
- This puts the talker on the defensive and they're likely to freeze up
- Ask questions to encourage the talker
- It shows you are listening and may help to keep focus
- Finally, STOP TALKING !
