How many different approaches are there to network analysis?

• Essentially there are three different approaches:

  • Activity-oriented systems, versus
  • Event-oriented systems
  • Event-oriented systems plus probability

• The activity-oriented systems use either:

  • Activities as "connectors", or
  • Activities as "nodes"

• The event-based approach focuses on

  • "Start" and "finish" times
  • And may involve "PERT"
