A Steering Committee

• Is a key body within a medium or large project's governance structure
• Is made up of a group of high-level stakeholders

  • Usually consisting of organizational peers, and a combination of direct customers and indirect stakeholders
• Is responsible for providing guidance on overall strategic direction and business issues
• Does not take the place of a sponsor

  • But helps to spread the strategic input and buy-in to a larger portion of the organization
