The work package

• Exists at the end of a branch of the work breakdown structure

  • Not necessarily at the lowest level of the whole structure
• Should be devised to be the responsibility of a single party

  • But large enough to make productive sense
  • Or competitively bid if under contract
  • And clearly distinguishable from all others
• Can be further decomposed into activities and tasks

  • For costing and scheduling purposes
• Details may be described in a "WBS Dictionary"
