Bases for WBS design/decomposition include:

• Distinct areas of expertise (functional or technological disciplines) are involved
• The work is clearly divided between different work groups in the organization
• There are separate systems and/or subsystems to be developed and integrated
• Different vendors, suppliers or contractors will be used in the execution of the project

  • Based on the project implementation strategy
• The project involves various operating groups at different locations
