Work Package Definition

We like to define a Work package as:

• A generic term for an element within a work breakdown structure (WBS)

  • At the lowest level, or end, of any particular branch
  • Not necessarily at the lowest level of the whole WBS
• It is usually used to refer to a unit of work performed within an organization
• The term "Commitment Package" may also be used, but usually for work that is "out-sourced"

  • I.e. contracted or purchased outside the organization
