Work Breakdown Structure or Project Breakdown Structure?

• Actually, what we will be showing you here is a Project (or "product") breakdown Structure (PBS)
• As we explain elsewhere, there is much confusion in the industry over the naming and application of the WBS technique
• The upper levels should all be described by nouns

  • And represent "work packages", hence "PBS"
• The "work" level comes later when we identify the work (i.e. activities = verbs) involved in creating each of these work package deliverables

  • And can properly be called "WBS"
